Ellie Selway - Tutor Profile

Hello! I have been a History teacher for over 12 years and each year I am bowled over by the way students inject new life into topics I have become so familiar with. History is a challenging academic subject but it is also one that has the potential to open hearts and minds to the lives of others and create a real sense of empathy and passion for positive change. History is fascinating and I enjoy the opportunity to develop a student’s interest in the past, as well as the chance to facilitate their understanding of the content and skills required to succeed. I am here to support and guide a student through understanding of course material, revision skills, exam skills and, more generally, honing their technique to answer questions with confidence and panache. I have also been a Head of Year 10 and 11 so I am aware of the various pressure points and challenges which students can face, as well as particular learning pathways and styles for neurodivergent students. A wonderful element of 1:1 tutoring is the quality time I can dedicate to each individual and I love celebrating the ‘lightbulb moments’ with them.
