Peter Kirby-Harris - Tutor Profile

I have 20 years of experience tutoring the Humanities and Social Sciences at A level and
GCSE with a wide variety of clients including sixth form colleges, secondary schools, local
councils and private clients who are either homeschool or looking for additional tuition to
supplement their learning. I am a professional exam coach as well as a personal tutor and
have developed a customised student-centred approach to guide students through their
courses and ensure they excel in their exams. Over the past decade I have worked for a
number of London Borough councils and Oxfordshire County Council tutoring students who
are homeschooled in order for them to sit exams or to gain entry into the school and college
of their choice. I have received extensive training in teaching SEND and ABS students and
have gained a great deal of insight into how best to teach students with a variety of
additional educational requirements. I also offer tuition to years 7-12 students, helping them
through their GCSEs as well as helping year 12 make the necessary step up to A Level and
improving their marks for the crucial end of year 12 exams.
I previously worked at a number of schools and universities across London and in
Oxfordshire. I have taught many home-schooled pupils, those taking resits, as well as high
achievers looking to get into elite universities and students looking to improve their grades to
open up a wider choice of university options or gain entry to sixth form. While teaching at
university I taught undergraduate and sixth form pupils writing techniques and exam
coaching and how to build confidence in their abilities so as to successfully make the step up
from A levels to degree level. I offer clients my personalised, student-centred approach to
tutoring so as to help students where they most need it and in a way that is most effective by
playing to their strengths. This has been the result of my two decades of tutoring experience
and is something that I am continually building on.
