Online group course · Two dates this August

Head Start to A‑Level Maths

Starting A-Level Maths this September? Many students achieve excellent GCSE grades and still find the jump to A-Level challenging , the pace is faster, the algebra more demanding, and key topics are assumed knowledge from the very first lesson. This 2.5-hour live online course refreshes exactly what A-Level teachers expect students to know from day one, so your child begins Year 12 confident rather than catching up.

  • Live online course
  • Maximum 6 students
  • GCSE Grades 7–9 recommended
  • Taught by Amy Evans, founder

Why this course

The perfect preparation before Year 12

After a long summer break it's completely normal to forget key skills. One focused morning brings them all back — before they're needed.

Refresh essential GCSE knowledge

We revise the algebra and mathematical techniques A-Level teachers expect students to know from day one.

Build confidence before September

Students walk into their first lesson prepared, instead of trying to recall GCSE content after six weeks away from maths.

Learn in a small group

A maximum of six students per session means plenty of interaction, questions answered on the spot, and individual support.

What's covered

During the session students will revisit

Seven areas, chosen because they're the GCSE skills Year 12 leans on most heavily in the first term.

01

Surds & indices

The essential number and algebra techniques used constantly throughout A-Level Maths.

02

Algebraic manipulation

Factorising, expanding and simplifying expressions with speed and accuracy.

03

Equations & rearranging formulae

Linear, quadratic and simultaneous equations, plus changing the subject of a formula.

04

Functions & graph sketching

Function notation, transformations and sketching the graphs Year 12 assumes.

05

Trigonometry essentials

The key GCSE trig skills students will use again and again during Year 12.

06

GCSE-to-A-Level calculator skills

Getting the most from a scientific calculator — before it really starts to matter.

07

Common Year 12 misconceptions

The classic errors that regularly catch new A-Level students out — spotted and fixed before September.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a two-part course?

No — the same 2.5-hour session runs on two dates, Monday 17 and Monday 24 August. Students attend once; simply choose whichever Monday suits you.

Who is the course for?

Students expecting Grades 7–9 at GCSE who plan to start A-Level Maths this September. It's designed for capable mathematicians who want to begin Year 12 on the front foot.

Does it teach the A-Level course early?

No. The aim is to strengthen the GCSE knowledge A-Level teachers assume from the very first lesson — surds, algebra, functions, trigonometry and more — so students feel prepared rather than overwhelmed.

What does my child need on the day?

A laptop or tablet with a stable internet connection, pen and paper, and their scientific calculator. Joining instructions are emailed before the session.
